Population Growth
The population numbers are in from the Census Bureau for population growth from 2000 to 2006. The fastest growing area by percentage in the state was the Wentzville area. According to the numbers Wentzville's population rose from 6,896 in 2000 to 20,749 by July 2006. This increase is more than 200%. Wentzville leaders add they believe by 2015 the population will be in the neighborhood of 46,000 if the growth trends in St. Charles County continues.
Based on growth by the number of people, O'Fallon, Mo led the St. Louis area in population growth from 2000 to 2006. O'Fallon grew by 26,308 people, or 57%, to 72,477 during this period.
In Lincoln County, Troy grew by 4,248 people from 2000 to 2006, putting its population last July at 10,985, an increase of 63.1%.
