In past years, condo ownership was seen as a second-rate option in comparison to home ownership. But in recent years, the tide has been shifting in the favor of multi-unit living. Condo sales have risen dramatically, the many now boast greater market value increases than single family homes. The condo boom, particularly in downtown areas, often follows urban revitalization projects. In St. Louis, trendy "loft" communities are popping up along Washingon Avenue and in Midtown, South City, and Central West Wend neighborhoods. Loft condos are appealing to young singles and couples, as well as baby boomers who are ready to turn in their huge lots and long commutes for the convenience of city living.
