Relocate-America.com recently declared O’Fallon, Missouri, one of the top ten places in America to relocate.
O’Fallon, Missouri, is a booming town in one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. A commutable distance to downtown St. Louis, O’Fallon is home to beautiful parks, the St. Charles County Fair, excellent schools and universities, nationally recognized sports teams and more.
Growth is the name of the game in O’Fallon. Beautiful subdivisions with community amenities and homes ranging from $90,000 to well over $500,000 are popping up all over the place. A network of well maintained roads provides access to retail establishments, popular restaurants and Top 50 hospitals and medical centers. O’Fallon is a great place to live.
New industries are moving into St. Charles County. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, St. Charles County ranked No. 17 among the 318 largest U.S. counties for its percentage change in employment growth from June 2003 to June 2004.
77 million baby boomers in America are preparing to retire over the next few years. Many of them don’t want to. But they may have to because many businesses prefer younger workers (read: lower-salaried workers). But the pool of available younger workers is small. Jobs will become available, but the number of younger applicants will be minimal. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has reported that the percentage of older workers in the workforce is presently increasing at the same time younger worker percentages are decreasing.
As these older workers retire, we will see a labor shortage. Says David T. Ellwood, a respected Harvard professor of government: "CEOs, labor leaders, community leaders, all came to the unanimous conclusion that we will have a worker gap that is a very serious one." The trouble for many boomers is this: according to the Center of Disease Control, the typical 65 year old can expect to live 18.7 more years. Many of these seniors want to continue working. And they can.
Baby Boomers who want to continue working will have jobs available for them. They may have to look, but they will be there. Progressive employers will create positions for post-65 workers. Some of these positions will be structured as part-time or consultant positions. But they will exist – we will simply have too great a need.
And this brings us back to O’Fallon, Missouri. As one of Relocate-America.com’s top communities and one of the fastest growing job markets in the United States, O’Fallon is a great place to search for your new post-65 career.
My company, Nolting Real Estate, enjoys helping older Americans search for homes. More importantly, we are committed to providing jobs for older Americans who are looking to reinvent themselves with a real estate career.
